The typical ashiko is a western adaptation of a Congolese drum. It is quite popular with beginning drummers as it is relatively less expensive than most djembes and because it is adaptable to many drumming styles and traditions.
The ashiko has in large part been popularized by world renowned drum circle facilitator, Arthur Hull. Besides being this drum maker’s first mentor, Mr. Hull had the largest ashiko producing company in the world, West Cliff Percussion in Santa Cruz , CA .
The ashikos we offer are made from salvaged or reclaimed wood transformed into a quality percussion instrument. We have three sizes for sale. The drum store also can accomodate custom orders with our wide variety of sizes and styles of percussion instruments.
We also have a top quality repair and reskinning shop where we repair: djembes, dunduns, ashikos, congas, ngomas and more. We have fixed drums that appeared to be beyond repair.
